Broadway was the name of a ranch in the eastern section of White Pine County near the Utah line and about two miles north of Eight-Mile Station. One of the early pioneers at Broadway, William (Bill) McCurdy, a stage driver and freight line operator, came to the area in 1865. Bill, with a partner John Hutton, purchased the ranch and Bill lived there in a log home. Bill’s brother Jim homesteaded nearby. When Jim decided to sell, Bill paid him in gold for his property. Jim supposedly buried the money Bill had paid him somewhere on Upper Chinn Creek. Jim died without revealing the whereabouts of the money, if indeed, it had been buried, and the money has never been found.

Over a period of several years, Bill McCurdy rented the Broadway Ranch to various individuals and by July 19, 1893, a post office was designated as Broadway. This post office remained in operation until September 7, 1894 when the postal service was split between the post offices in Deep Creek, Utah and Tippett, Nevada.

In the early 1900’s a one-room school was built at Broadway on a hill between the two ranches designated “Broadway.” The school, located on a hill between the ranches, was later converted into a ranch house.
