According to our truck speedometer, Kent is located 19.7 miles NE of Ely, Nevada in the beautiful Duck Creek Valley. We visited the site on May 11, 2003.
From Ely, go 18.3 miles to Jct. 486. Turn East on 486 for approximately 1.4 miles. Kent was located on the right hand side - just off the highway right-or-way. There is nothing visible to show the post office of Kent existed! Kent is one of our "gonna do" projects! More will be added if anything is found during future research.
A post office was established June 20, 1899 and continued until January 15, 1907 when its operations were transferred to McGill. Ida L. Gallagher was the first postmistress with Guy L. Gallagher replacing her on January 16, 1903. Guy served until the post office closed.
Kent may have been named for Jerry Kent, a long time resident of the area and foreman of the McGill ranch. Hopefully, future research will tell us how Kent got its name!
