Places where post offices were located - links on page to individual history. There were many other small towns and camps that sprang up and enjoyed a brief life in White Pine County. Many of the old-time mining camps that came into prominence in the early days are almost forgotten. Their names made the hearts of eastern and British investors beat a little faster as they conjured up images of wealth just waiting to be removed from the earth! The story of the remarkable mineral production from the treasure-laden hills of White Pine County sounds like a strange, beautiful dream. History is like a road map - it is easier to see where we are going when we know where we have been. The combination of Towns, Mining Camps, Stage Stops, Pony Express Stations, High Mountains, Valleys, Streams, and Ranches all combine to make White Pine County a fascinating area for historical research. Many reference books are available with portions of the history of White Pine county and excellent books have been written about individual towns. An overall view of the entire county with the combination of towns, camps and stations has been ignored. This site will try to correct that ommission. Much of the following information has been taken from oral interviews, mail correspondence, old newspapers, reminiscences from Historical Society papers and research papers from undergraduate students.
