Dad is Pete (Joe) Collins, Uncle is Jon R. Collins. Grandfather Joe Collins. Great Grandfather, Pa Collins built Collins Hotel. Still lots of Collins's in Nevada.
Jim, this information is public knowledge. Nevada Fish & Game should provide you with the sale price and any other pertinent data they collected on the history. You can also do a search at the Recorder's office in the county court house.
Thank you for signing my guest book.
My greatgrandpa was Ervin Lester Hendrix. They owned the Sunnyside and Hot Creek Ranches south of Lund in the 1940' & 50's. I am looking for good resources to research these ranches if you know of any. I am interested in acreage and sale price to the Nevada Fish and Game in 1959. I am also interested in any other facts about the ranches. Unfortunately my family were poor historians in those days and there isn't much record of these ranches that I can find. Thank You. I enjoyed your site very much.
I've never been to Ely...my connection is my 46 Chevrolet Suburban that used to be owned by the city of Ely. I've had it since the late 80s. Every time I drive her I reflect back on a history that I know very little of..., I treat her with love and respect. I know that she served your town well...I've been told that she was an ambulance for 4 years...dog catcher used it for 10 or 12 years and then the city engineers used it...the city sold it in 1986.
Someday, I'll visit Ely to see first hand the community my Suburban served.
Regards
Carl Germain
Nevada is my birth name and has always brought me much attention and wonderful comments...I stumbled upon this sight by accident and am pleased to share this story about my name...Nevada is a Spanish word and means snow covered or snow fall...there is a mountain range in Spain called Sierra Nevada and in the Dominican Republic Nevada means snow storm...Gotta Go...Nevada
I lived in Riepetown for a year of two around the 1935 time frame. I visited in 2000. As you know it was gone. I have been writing about my child hood for my children. There are about three pages on my experience in Riepetown. If you would care to have my memories of Riepetown send me an E-mail and I will respond with the info. I think I will send a not to Walter Johnson and obtain a copy of Copper Camp Kids.

Hello,
I love your site. I've spent hours looking at the history of mines an ranches in the area. I think my wife's g-grandfather, William Perry Noe, may have been a cousin of Nimrod Noe who lived in Muncey and owned the Grand Deposits mine.
Grant Johnston, Chico, CA
I am looking for my deceased aunts children. My aunt Francis Wasik was born on 10/26/1910. I don't know her married name. Her daughters names were Audrey and Shirley. Last we heard 25 years ago shirley lived in las vegas and audrey in Lyola, Il.
Last year, I learned that my great-grandfather, Lorenzo Frecerro died in Ely in 1915. That information settled an old family mystery. Thanks to my cousin Marietta Marricini and her correspondence with Donna Frederick that the infromatrion came to us. I am so sorry my grandmother, Lorenzo's daughter, was not alive to learn this. She would have been 115 years old this past October.
Looking for any info on an ancestor, Edward Dexheimer, who died in Ely circa 1951. Date of death and anything else would be appreciated. Thanks.

What a great site! I found it by accident. i really enjoyed the picture of Hamilton. My family(Rosevear) was from there! I am a Nevada native all the way!
Readers, be sure and check out George's website below. Curious why we live in Northeastern Nevada? The pictures on his site will tell you better than words!
Ely is a neat place except for when they would take those bruiser high school kids out of the mines (or so we thought) and they would whomp us (Elko)in basketball and football. But for some consolation we could almost always beat Winnemucca. Those were the only three "A" schools in the state at the time; Reno I think was "AA" and we didn't have a chance against them; White Pine fared a little better. My web site (above) is on the Ruby Mountains and East Humboldts north of you. This summer I will be coming down your way to try to get some good photos of wild horses; they don't seem to exist in the Rubies and Humboldts. You have a very good web site; I'm always searching for Nevada, especially northern Nevada, sites. I was recently contacted by an individual who is moving to the Ely area (probably there now) who is employed by the BLM and will be coordinating with him White Pine County photos that he will obtain to include in an additional web page.

Query answered via email this date. NOTE: Be sure to use the freefind search on the first page when looking for a specific name. It will show you what page the name is on if it is listed on this site.
A.B. Treece is also listed on my White Pine Elected Officials web site. To get to that site, click the link found here on the "White Pine County Links" page. When you get to the White Pine Elected Officials site, typing the name into the freefind search will list the specific pages that show the dates, votes, offices etc. when A.B. Treece and others ran for office.

RE: White Horse School Query
Where are you from:
Ely
Comments:
I have not heard of White Horse School in White Pine, but that does not mean there wasn't one! Could you possibly mean the school at White River?
Anyone out there who can help with this?
I once lived in Kimberly Nevada, currently in Denver colorado
Comments:
I was in Kimberly Nevada many years ago. My cousin went to an elementary school named White Horse? do you know where we could find records from that school?
Lived in Elko many years then moved to Missouri. We hope to come back. We love the Ely area and have a friend, Sharlene Eldridge who owns a trailer park there. Sure wish you had your town paper on the internet! God Bless Yall. Boo Clement
My Dad, Ed Pesout Jr. grew up in Mcgill.
I haven't been there since my grandparents moved to Boulder City, when I was about 7 years old. My grandparents were Ed and Ruth Pesout.
Does anyone remember them?
Thank you,
Laurie Pesout Post
YES, your site is well worth the effort!! I have a website, "Riepe Roots" (home page link above) for all Riepe families in the US. I have info on the site for Richard A. Riepe & Henry A. Riepe and Riepetown, and also, a link back to your site. I would love to have someone get photos of the Riepe stones - if they exist - in Ely Cemetery. Keep up the good work!
My grandparents lived in Lund I believe but were buried in Ely. I use to visist them in the summers when I was very young. Loved it there. Their names were Leroy & Hazel Chesnut. Hazel died in 1965 and Leroy in 1980. I accually found your web site because my mother & the remaining three son of the chesnuts are on their way to visit ely & there parents graves this weekend, so I started doing some research. Great site. I won't go on anymore but plkease e-mail me if you have any info on them.
Thank you
Brenda
I am interested on any ancestor information that you might have
on the Ely pioneers. My dad said that there were two brothers that were into mining...and it is a very wild story that I would like to confirm and/or add to. Thanks for any help or considerations...John Oliver Ely
HELLO ELY!!! Lived in Ely from 1964-1971. Moved one time in 69 back to ABQ for a year. I miss Ely very much and the many friends I made during that time in my young life. I have been keeping in contact with some of you, but if more of you remember the Kingery girls write to me please. I was in band from 5th grade all the way to High School, I am not sure who the High school band teacher was in 69-72, is there anyone who would know? Also does anyone remember Danny Capitan? I would like to get a hold of him. He turned out to be a good friend. Take care all of you, and be thankful for the small town life you have. Big city life is too cold and harsh sometimes.

In 1962 I was stationed in Zweibruecken, Germany with the 6901st SPG of the U.S. Air Force. One of my good friends was Ron Marriott who was from Ely. Several of us are trying to find enough of the guys for a reunion. Does anyone have any info on Ron? Thanks
After debating with myself for a couple of weeks, I have just taken a mans comments on why we should
not have war in Iraq off this guest book. Yes, he has the right to express his opinions. A short commentary would probably have remained whether I agreed or not. I have the right to remove them if they are taking up too much of the space I am paying for. Ain't America great!
If you are interested in his opinions type in the key words "War in Iraq" and see if his web site comes up on a search engine.
Now if the same amount of space would have been used for White Pine history or genealogy, it would have stayed! I love to hear comments on where you are from and your ties to White Pine County. Memories of White Pine
are fun or queries about White Pine are welcomed. That is the purpose of this web site.
I am related to the Heaps and Bowen's, anyone have any stories to tell about these characters? My Grandma is Avilla Bowen Dellheim and my mother is Sandra Heaps Hendersen (her father is Sherrel Ray Heaps)her brothers went by Chick and Wink. Any memories you might have would be fun to hear.

Ruth post office will be celebrating it's 100th year anniversary on February 8. Ida Gray was the first postmaster and Sharon Pickens is the present postmaster. With all the changes within the postal system it is great that Ruth remains a post office rather than become a Station!
My mom and dad lived in Reiptown in the late 40's. My brother Laird was born in Kimberly. I've been reading the book Coppertown Kids, and some of the names are names dad spoke of in the past. Laird Rippeth is my dad and he worked the mines. If anyone recognizes his name give us an email as I know he would be tickled to hear from you.
Sharron
Wishing you Happy Holiday's as we celebrate the birth of Christ. May you know peace, love, joy and prosperity in the New Year! Hopefully, some of us will find that elusive ancestor!
As stated on the "sign guest book page" the guest book is cleared once a year. Sorry - but this site is expensive and I cannot afford to pay for the additional space!
Doing reasearch on the Loincoln Higway and significant sites along the route from Ely to Utah-Nevada line. My thanks to Donna for passing on this great site. Too bad Utah does not have one for use on the Ibapah east portions!
Pardon the repeat of my message, this is my corrected e-mail address....... Doing genealogy research on Ryan families from County Limerick Ireland. Anyone have the DOB and place of birth for William Ryan, father of Patrica Nixon, spouse of the former president.

I really like your Web Site. We will definately use the resources that you have provided. GREAT JOB!! Hope you are well and happy. Frank & Ruth Sperry.
Loved this website. I lived in East Ely from 1968 to 1982. Graduated class of '81 WPHS
I visited this site for some Nevada History that I am sharing with my Boy Scout troop in Las Vegas. I especially enjoyed the pictures of Hamilton (my favorite ghost town)
Thank you.
I wanted to let you all know what a wonderful job you have done in putting this website together. There are not enough pages to share all of my memories of White Pine County but I will say I have lived everywhere there was to live...Number 9 Hill, Up the Canyon, By the old Ruth Jail, in Reipe Town, Ely, Ruth Townsite, Preston and Lund. I attended every school in every town including the two room school house in Preston.........But the guy who has all of the same memories is Martin James Sorensen. Ask him what it's like to run wild in the hills of White Pine County. He has a million memories and stories. Thanks for your hard work and letting me ramble a bit.
I lived in McGill from 1942 until 1960 having graduated from WPHS with my twin brother, Ron. My parents, Don and Marge Tate lived there all of their lives as did my grandfather and grandmother, George and Blanche Tate. My grandparents talked about living in the tar shacks in the townsite area of town. We lived at 49 4th Street and had many friends over all those years. My grandfather, father and my brother and I all worked at KCC. Grandpa Tate and my father both retired from there. Thanks for keeping track and would enjoy hearing from someone who may have known any of our family. Don Tate
I found both of my great-grandfathers listed as postmasters, Peter H. Cannon and James Reilly. My grandmother, Emma Reilly was a deputy sheriff in Ely at one time. My grandfather's sister, Una Reilly married Denver Dickerson who became the governor of Nevada. I have a rich White Pine history of which I am very proud. My father, James Reilly, died in 1966 when I was only 11 years old. When I visited Ely for the first time several years ago I was thrilled to see a picture of my dad hanging in the barbershop on the main street. It was from the 1930's! Sincerely, Linda Reilly Robinson
Looking for Vincenzo Antonio Vanza from Switzerland.Last place heard of White Springs, then disappears. Was there some sort of a hospital near there c 1890's-1900?
SHOSHONE WOMAN GATHERING PINENUTS recognizes the important role of the first inhabitants to the area. The woman is gathering pinenuts while tending the baby in the cradle board on her back. This sculpture was done in 2002 by Joe Pachak working with local Native residents.
I'm sorry, but I do not have that information available to send to you. That would require a date and a search through the newspapers on microfilm at the library.
Hi there, I have lived in Ely my whole life,, and I have been reminded of White Pine County, I was wondering if you would send me some information od=f the murder of Shasta Hunt. You see Nancy Griffith was my aunt and recently my little cousin has been sneaking out of her window and it has been scaring me, she is from Ely also, and I would like for her to see these stories of people from her home town and they ended up with the worse and their families are here left to grieve
thank you

I am doing genealogical research on Benjamin Sanford. I was able to find him living in Aurum Precinct, White Pine County during the 1900 census. We was living in Gold Hill, Storey Co, during the 1870 census. I was able to find a reference to his becoming Postmaster in Aurum in 1904.
Thanks!
